Are struggling with online study? Do you want to know how to get the most out of online learning? Well, we have a senior professor here to guide you.
In this episode, I have interviewed a senior professor. He shared the most important tips regarding writing, discipline, digital socialization, etc.
Prof Ivan Hofsajer coordinates postgraduate students in the faculty of engineering at Wits University Johannesburg. He has strong views about how the world of tertiary learning needs to change and adapt. His tips on writing have helped me in my own Ph.D. and he explains the difference for lecturers and students between online learning and traditional lectures.
While talking about education, he said,
“Learning makes you a different person and this is why PhD is tough.” He gave examples how people have changed before and after completing their higher studies.
Interesting, right? Let’s hear to Prof Ivan Hofsajer in detail.
He believes that “content will be amazing” because of market places but we will be frustrated by the lack of impact it will actually have on students. We have to find a new way of digitizing the social compact that students have with each other and their lecturers and supervisors should really be called advisors.
Listen to this episode for a candid reflection from a very experienced lecturer on postgrad writing, research, and student success.
Why should You Write?
Prof Ivan Hofsajer shared that our brain can only work to handle “Five pieces of information” at once. If you are dealing with something complicated like your research, you need to write it down.
He shared a perfect example,
“If you want to share an address of the nearby place, you can guide without any writing. However, when it is far away or there a lot of turns, you need to write it on paper. Either you write or make a map, it is up to you.”
